Level 1 + 2 Snowboard Instructor Course

Welcome to Canada! Jump on our group transfer from Calgary to Banff and meet the whole Nonstop crew during our Welcome Dinner. You’ll discover our favourite Banff hangouts during a tour of the town, and we’ll host an equipment workshop to help you decide which kit to buy for the season ahead. On-snow, the first few days are about finding your snow legs. We’ll give you a guided tour of Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise, and we’ll start look at your riding and technique. We’ll ramp up the Level 1 training in week 2, as we iron out other bad habits through drills and video analysis. We’ll also introduce you to basic CSIA/CASI techniques on easy groomed slopes.

Your CSIA/CASI training really takes-off now. Get ready to challenge yourself as we dial in your technique on and off -piste. We’ll begin a series of one-to-one private coaching sessions to sharpen your personal riding skills ahead of the exam. You’ll be getting as much teaching practice in as possible, with simulated lessons and scenarios. Our CSIA/CASI Level 1 theory talk adds to your knowledge-base, getting you fully ready to nail your exam. You’ll be riding with real confidence now and will be set for one of the biggest highlights of the winter – our backcountry cat skiing/boarding day at abandoned Fortress Mountain.

Held at Sunshine Village, your three-day CSIA/CASI exam is challenging but a lot of fun too. Teaching and riding are assessed in two parts – pass both and you’ll be qualified to teach beginners in Canada, the UK and Australia. Nonstop usually has a 100% pass rate. We’ll celebrate your success with a big Nonstop end-of-exam party. Next up: Level 2.

You’ll have a couple of days off to freeride and relax before your CSIA/CASI Level 2 training begins. We start with practical teaching sessions, dynamic performance coaching and carving techniques. You’ll also have the option to train for your CSIA/CASI Park Course qualification at Lake Louise. You’ll complete a Teaching Children module and our ‘Working as an Instructor’ workshop gets you thinking more about your future in snowsports.

This week adds to your arson of on-snow skills by developing your all-mountain expertise, ready for the Nonstop heli trip. You’ll expand your knowledge of CSIA/CASI teaching methodology and refine your all-terrain prowess. You’ll feel competent on a huge range of terrain types and snow conditions by now, and our one-on-one sessions will maximise every opportunity for personal progression. You’ll be fine-tuning your demonstration technique, student feedback and communication skills, getting your CASI/CASI teaching approach right up to scratch. Everyone will also be ready to take on some of Canada’s most extreme terrain on our Kicking Horse powder road trip.

It’s time for that final push towards your goals. Level 2s will be fine-tuning their demo runs and teaching ahead of the exam, while our theory talk helps to consolidate the exam requirements. For the last official week, it’s Level 2 exam. Snowboarders will have four back-to-back exam days. You’ll be evaluated on your teaching and riding and, when you pass both, you’ll be qualified to teach internationally in places like Japan, New Zealand and Switzerland. This epic final week culminates with an almighty Nonstop Graduation Party and Farewell Dinner.
