Master the Mountain Ski Camp

Welcome to Fernie and your home for the next month. We arrange a equipment and bootfitting advice session so everyone has the correct gear. There’ll be a welcome drinks and dinner as groups are arranged and the goals for the program explained. Coaching gets underway on Monday, the first of four coaching days this week with Wednesday off. We’ll guide you around Fernie’s five bowls and your coach will ease the group in, giving you time to find your ski legs. As the week progresses and confidence builds, we’ll begin to develop your technique, heading for the powder and off-piste if conditions are good. Enjoy delicious and social meals at our lodge in the evenings and soak up Fernie culture with your crew.

We start to notch it up a level or two. Using the skills you’ve developed in week one we’ll explore more challenging terrain. Fernie has fantastic tree runs so we’ll develop tactics for skiing in trees and build confidence in steep conditions. By this point you’ll already notice improvements in your technique and be ready for one of the trip highlights – an optional guided backcountry cat skiing/boarding day where you’ll ride some of BC’s best powder snow. The week will finish with two skills clinics in preparation for your upcoming Boulder Hut trip. The first is in avalanche awareness – learning about risk evaluation and rescue techniques. The second is in touring – to get a feel for the equipment, uphill climbs and transitions. We use The Lost Boys and Mongolia Bowl areas, just outside the Fernie boundary, and your guide will be giving tips and support throughout.

The highlight of the trip, the Boulder Hut. This is what you’ve been working towards. The group is split into two and each will heli into the Boulder Hut in turn. The experience begins with a helicopter ride to the remote log cabin – your home for four days. You’ll enjoy guided ski touring in this backcountry paradise, riding fresh powder and sharing perfect days with great friends. They’ll be delicious food, well-earned drinks and total freedom to unplug.

The last week of the adventure as you return to Fernie with Boulder Hut stories swirling around your memory. You’ll enjoy a final week in the dramatic bowls of Fernie as we continue to develop your skiing with small group coaching. You’ll be looking at the mountain with fresh eyes now, ready to take on anything. We’ll explore Fernie’s best terrain, return to your favourite runs and conquer new lines you may have previously avoided. The week will end with a closing party and final farewells with your newfound friends.
